In this latest dyno test we had this awesome 2021 Toyota Hilux 2.8 D-4D Invincible X in for tuning and testing. After a short installation of our specialised Bluespark Pro + Boost I-ART chip tuning box, we loaded it on the rollers and got to work.

This particular engine uses the i-ART system, which makes it unique in many ways. By featuring pressure feedback from each fuel injector instead of using a traditional single pressure sensor in the common rail, i-ART makes it possible to continuously monitor and adapt fuel injection per combustion in each of the four cylinders.

Each injector has a small computer on top, which monitors injection pressure. Using this information, the self-adapting i-ART system makes sure that the ideal amount of fuel is injected during each combustion cycle.

The combination of this gives the driver an engine with improved fuel economy, considerably lower emissions and high performance output as well as a powerful sound character. Our boxes have been designed to work seamlessly with this technology, and our regular Pro + Boost diesel box was carefully adapted to ensure full compatibility with these type of connectors.

Dyno testing before and after shows healthy gains across the rev range, with a significant increase in power and torque, really transforming how the Hilux feels to drive.

Peak power was increased, as we were able to lift it from 202hp at stock, up to 249hp with the box. If you take a look at the dyno graph below you can really see how we change that curve (dotted red and blue lines). You can really see how we bring that power in as soon as possible, right down at 1750rpm you can see how our tuned curve really breaks away from how it looked at stock, and continues to hold that climb. We see that consistency right throughout the full rev range.

Torque also saw some great improvements. At stock the engine produced 446Nm and now 562Nm with the box. The stock figures coming in lower than what is quoted at 500Nm, but not particularly unusual to see lower stock figures here. It does show how strong we can make those figures back up with our box, adding a whole 116Nm is pretty awesome. If you take another look at the graph (solid lines), it’s a similar story, where you can really see where we have applied those gains, allowing those torque improvements to be applied through the revs.
