In our latest dyno test we had the pleasure of tuning and testing this incredible 2021 BMW G80 M3 Comp. It goes without saying that it’s always great fun when we have a true ‘M’ car up on the rollers. As you can see, this was no different, as the G80 definitely has super unique styling. So it was a quick installation of our 3 Channel Pro Petrol chip tuning box, it was up on the rollers to see what the engine could achieve.
Now as you’ll have seen in some of our recent videos, the recurring issue that all 2021+ BMW drivers are facing, is the tuning limitations due to the locked ECU. This 2021 G80 M3 is no different and currently has no way to read or write the ECU data. This means that while traditional remapping is impossible, our tuning module offers the perfect solution here, providing fantastic gains without requiring a traditional ECU flash. This also has the added benefit of being traceless once removed for warranty purposes.

Firstly, we complete a stock run with the car at a completely stock level of mapping, to see what the car was running from factory. You can see from the dyno graph below that power and torque levels are elevated, showing 549hp with 763Nm of torque, instead of the 510hp and 650Nm which BMW quote. However this isn’t too surprising, when running 99RON fuel we would always expect to get a little bit more than those stock quoted figures.

Dyno testing before and after shows healthy gains across the rev range, with a significant increase in power and torque, really transforming how it feels to drive.
So we then take a look at the first of the tuned runs. This is with our tuning module installed, but with no adjustments, just straight out of the box. Peak power was significantly increased, as we were able to lift it from 549hp at stock, up to 652hp with the box. If you take a look at the dyno graph below you can see how we change that curve (dotted red and blue lines). We give real consistency here, bringing that extra power in as soon as possible, whilst holding it for as long as possible throughout the entire rev range, adding that +103hp at its peak, really transforming how it feels out on the road. Torque also saw some impressive improvements. At stock the engine produced 763Nm and now 901Nm with the box. If you take another look at the graph (solid lines), you can really see where we have applied those gains. Again looking across that whole portion of the mid-range, you can really see exactly where its lifted, adding the +138Nm extra at its peak, delivering that increase exactly where it’s needed.

We then made some slight tweaks to the mapping of the box, along with some upgraded Pipercross filters that the customer wanted us to add. We can see from the dyno graph of this custom tune below, that we have increased power even further to 663hp with 902Nm of torque. Not only have we raised those peak figures, but we also made some slight adjustments to the curve, giving us those gains exactly where it’s needed. It goes without saying, that these are excellent performance increases, and will make a massive difference out on the road.

Keep an eye out for an upcoming video for our thoughts on the panel filter upgrades, as we delve into these in more detail.
