BMW 128ti 2.0 2021 265hp Dyno Test - B48 Performance Tuning

In our latest dyno test we have this 2021 F40 BMW 128ti in for tuning and testing. The 128ti shares the same underpinnings as the M135ix that we have already seen a lot of on this channel, so we know this variant of the B48 is very capable. After quick installation of our 3 Channel Pro Petrol chip tuning box, it was up on the rollers to see what the engine could achieve.

Now as you’ll have seen in some of our recent videos, the recurring issue that all 2021+ BMW drivers are facing, is the tuning limitations due to the locked ECU. This 2021 F40 128ti is no different and currently has no way to read or write the ECU data. This means that while traditional remapping is impossible, our tuning module offers the perfect solution here, providing fantastic gains without requiring a traditional ECU flash. This also has the added benefit of being traceless once removed for warranty purposes.

Dyno testing before and after shows healthy gains across the rev range, with a significant increase in power and torque, really transforming how the 128ti feels to drive.

Peak power was significantly increased, as we were able to lift it from 265hp at stock, up to 320hp with the box. If you take a look at the dyno graph below you can see how we change that curve (dotted red and blue lines). We give real consistency here, bringing that extra power in as soon as possible, whilst holding it for as long as possible throughout the entire rev range, adding that +55hp at its peak, really transforming how it feels out on the road.

Torque also saw some impressive improvements. At stock the engine produced 419Nm and now 499Nm with the box. If you take another look at the graph (solid lines), you can really see where we have applied those gains. Again looking across that whole portion of the mid-range, you can really see exactly where its lifted, adding the +80Nm extra at its peak, delivering that increase exactly where it’s needed.

This customer requested a 450Nm torque limit. Our tuning module is completely configurable, so allows us to do exactly that. If you take a look at the graph below you can see that we have adjusted the mapping to suit this limit, providing 444Nm of torque across the entire rev range.
