Another great rolling road dyno test here, with this BMW 118i after we installed our Bluespark 3 Channel Pro Petrol chip tuning box.

The allure of German engineering is exemplified in the BMW 118i, particularly the 2019 model with its B38 engine, something that we have worked with and tuned many times here at Bluespark HQ.

This turbocharged powertrain is not just an engineering feat; it's a statement of efficiency and power. With BMW's commitment to performance, the B38 engine is both a reliable companion for daily commutes and a powerhouse for those spirited drives. Now lets see how we can enhance that, load it on to the rollers and deliver those gains.

Dyno testing before and after shows healthy gains across the rev range, with a significant increase in power and torque.

Peak power was increased, we were able to lift it from 136hp at stock, up to 176hp with the box. Taking a look at the dyno graph below you can see how the curve changes (dotted red and blue lines), giving much more consistency throughout the rev range. You can see we hold those gains for much longer, seeing that line continue to climb, rather than levelling out in those mid-range revs, like it did at stock.

Torque with our box is also greatly improved. At stock the engine produced 259Nm, and now 281Nm with the box. Again, taking a look at the graph (solid lines), you can really see the difference in that curve. You can see where we have lifted those gains, providing those enhancements exactly where needed, giving a much more consistent curve. Again, focusing on that mid-range, we hold those gains for much longer leading to much improved driveability feeling much smoother through gear changes.
